Event: 37th MidEast Watch & Jewelry Show, Sharjah-Highlights, Photos

I got a chance to visit the 37th MidEast Watch & Jewelry Show held at Sharjah Expo Center from Oct 14th to 18th, 2014. The event comprised of designer jewelry and watch brands from five countries Italy, Hong Kong, Thailand, India and Singapore all displaying exquisite pieces from their respective cultures and design industry.

I felt the event mainly focused on diamond and 925 sterling silver jewels with precious stones encrusted. Some brands also had 18 carat gold jewelry. I couldn't shop any of those but the offerings were mouth watering and pretty expensive. But if you're willing to spend a few grands then do checkout one of these exhibitions. Parking and entry was free.

The 38th MidEast Watch & Jewelry Show will be held during March and April 2015. So if you happen to come to the UAE during that time, you'll have a chance to checkout the exhibition yourself.

They also had a few stalls carrying imitation jewels from India, Thailand and Italy and I bought myself these two sets.

More photos from the event. Do tell if you're even been to one of these events. I hope you like the photos. Enjoy!

Make Up For Ever Duo Mat Powder Foundation Shade 202 Translucent Beige-Review, Photos, Swatches

Company/Brand Claim: Provides a shine free finish that covers blemishes and other imperfections and perfectly evens out the skin tone.

For Skin Type: Normal to Combination

Packaging: Round plastic case which snaps close. Looks professional and I love the overall packaging.

Product Coverage: Sheer to medium

Formulation: Matte

Texture and Feel: Soft and powdery

Color: Sheer Beige
Fragrance: None

Application: Apply it with the provided sponge or a powder blush

Result: Make Up For Ever foundations have been raved about by beauty bloggers over the years. I wanted to try it out but picked the duo mat for its coverage as I wanted a pressed powder foundation I could wear everyday. I bought this before my wedding and wore it on the special day as well as my trips abroad. I just didn't like the idea of carrying a liquid foundation everywhere. I just find powders more comfortable.

I bought the shade 202 Translucent Beige thinking it would go well with my complexion but I made a mistake. I should have gone for 2 shades darker because when I applied it on my face it was just too light. You just can't trust the monitor screen! And after I caught a bad tan from my trips to Malaysia and Thailand, I literally couldn't wear it until my tan lightened.

The good part is that it does cover imperfections such as slight acne marks and spots and provides a beautiful smooth matte finish without applying too much. It won't fully cover dark circles though. The coverage is buildable but wearing too much will give you a cakey look. It comes with a sponge and a mirror in the lid which is an added advantage. But it is advised not to wet the sponge and apply. For combination skin types it is better to apply a bit of moisturizer underneath on the dry areas as it will highlight white dry patches if applied alone. It will last a long time if worn in normal temperatures but if you wear it during humid and very hot weathers it can turn slightly orange after a few hours of wear.

Staying Power: Lasts at least for 6 hours then may turn slightly orange

Times Tested: Several times
Cons: Choosing the right shade is a hassle as there are no counters in Pakistan and you'll have to rely on your monitor screen to guess the perfect shade for you.

Anything Else: Expensive.

Make Up For Ever Duo Mat Powder Foundation comes in a 10 grams content case and is available in 11 shades.

Rating: 4.5/5

Take it:

You're looking for sheer to medium coverage foundation
You' want a matte finish
You want to use it everyday
You're not into liquid foundations
You prefer high end brands

Leave it:

You can't find the right shade
You find it expensive

Price: Rs. 4625/-
Available at:
Pakistan: I got it from Rouge and you can also order it through Just4Girls
UAE: Sephora
International: Sephora

Alternatives: I don't have any other powder foundations at the moment so can't suggest and alternate to this one.

Conclusion: I actually like this product. If only I had my exact shade. Otherwise it's actually great for oily skin types. Recommended? If you can test it out at the counters, Yes!

Ways to keep your hair healthy.

We all go through hair problems every now and then. All of them can't be taken care of at once but to maintain and/or retain the health of your hair it is important to take some steps. Today I'll share with you some general tips and tricks which have worked for me as well.

1. Don't shampoo every day!

If you wash your hair every day, that's fine. But, if you shampoo it daily, it will strip away the natural oils from the scalp resulting in hair fall, dry scalp and even roughness. It will also cause the scalp to produce more oil in return. Plus, regular shampooing will also cause hair dye and/or streaks to fade away (if you get them done) earlier than expected.

2. Brush the tangles away!

Brush your hair "after" they've completely dried. Avoid using blow dryers as they harm the scalp. Room temperature is best. Brush in strokes starting from the bottom of the hair and moving towards the top. Yes, it's the opposite way. Starting from the bottom detangles the hair rather easily and doesn't pull them out or cause breakage. Whereas starting from the top will cause both.

3. Tie em up!

Be it children or adults, keeping hair open all the time will without a doubt catch dust, split from the ends, lose texture and even catch lice (yikes!). Keep your hair tied when at home, If you still want to style them, tie them in a pony tail, braid or bun. You can choose from many styles for which several tutorials are available on Youtube.

4. Cut down on hair stylers!

Excess use of hair straighteners/curling irons can cause unimaginable damage to your hair. They will become rough, frizz and lose texture. I was surprised to see it is noticeable even in photos. One of my friends, a very frequent user of straighteners turned up with auburn shaded bottom hair in photos, which was not hair dye or low lights but the result of hair burning due to excessive straightener usage. Even if you use serums and heat protectors, remember that these products also contains chemicals which will temporarily block excess heat but don't promise retained hair health. But if you still want locks or waves try those no heat tutorials on Youtube.

5. Condition at least once a week!

Use conditioner once or twice a week, depending on your hair type. Don't apply it to the scalp. Focus on end as they're the most dry part. Conditioners are a doze of nourishment for the hair. Use herbal or organic once if you can find.

6.  Let nature help!

Natural ingredients are the best care for hair compared to cosmetic products infused with natural ingredients or extracts from herbs and fruits etc. Plain natural ingredients on their own can do a much better job at providing health and nourishment to the hair. Some well known nature helpers are egg, henna, milk, oil from olives, almonds and coconut etc. I have talked about a henna treatment for healthier hair, which I personally follow as it voluminizes and makes the hair silky and soft. Check it out here.

7. Get a cut when it's needed!

It is essential to get a haircut or trim every 3 months, according to experts. But if you're not comfortable with the idea or your hair growth is slow, then it's best to have them cut when it's most needed. The longer the hair grow the more dead they will become at the ends due to lack of blood circulation. This will ultimately result in visible dullness, tangles and split ends.
To save yourself from worrying about these problems later it is better to get a hair cut occasionally. Fix a salon appointment or do it at home using crea clip if you have one.

That's it for my tips. I hope they've helped you in some way. If you have tips to share, do so in a comment below and don't forget to leave your opinion about the post. Ciao!
